An OPTO isolated speed control is a speed controller without a built in Battery Elimination Circuit (BEC) to provide power for the receiver and servos, but they do enable the use of larger power supplies, up to 5S Li-pos or 16 Nimh/Nicad cells.
To power the receiver and servos either a seperate receiver battery supply or a UBEC unit (the lighter option) must be used.
